Artist Statement
I grew up loving and collecting many beautiful stones, rocks and other natural treasures of the earth. Back in 2003, after handcrafting a few gifts and receiving encouragement and support from my family, I was inspired and motivated to begin a new chapter in my life – sharing my love of stones with the world in my original jewelry designs.
I strive to design jewelry that has timeless appeal and that can be worn for just about any occasion. I handcraft all my original designs using sterling silver beads and semi-precious stones from all over the world. I am very fortunate to be able to purchase handmade lapis and jade gemstones from the Sar-e-Sang mines in Afghanistan, hand cut by the village women and children. Other unique stones used include green garnet from mines in Africa, rare sugilite stones from Tanzania, amber from the Baltic and black coral from the Philippines; from South America, citrine, red garnet, and aquamarine.
Texan by birth, I now proudly call Kentucky my home. The Bluegrass State holds a very special place in my heart, as it has become the source of my creative inspiration. From Red River Gorge, to Mammoth Cave, to Cumberland Falls, there's always a new influence under the next unturned stone it seems. But it doesn’t stop there. I’ve been inspired by Mother Nature from across the seas in the South Pacific and in Europe, especially in the Salisbury Plain of south central England – home of Stonehenge.
I am a juried artist in many major art shows and fairs throughout Kentucky as well as around the region. I work out of my home in Georgetown, Kentucky and proudly present and offer my one-of-a-kind jewelry designs online at Stonehinged.com.
