Visiting Moeraki Boulders on New Zealand's South Island
|
What does a young girl who grows up loving and collecting rocks aspire to be? An artist, of course!
It's not really all that surprising. Karen Lockridge's passion for the natural world and for art quickly formed a symbiotic relationship. With an innate desire to create, she handcrafts one-of-a-kind jewelry accessories that beautifully enhance the work of Mother Nature herself.
Karen uses only semi-precious gemstones and natural materials in her designs. She works with a wide assortment of stones and gladly does custom work upon request.
Texan by birth, Karen now proudly calls Kentucky home. The Bluegrass State holds a very special place in her heart, as it has become the source of her creative inspiration. From Red River Gorge, to Mammoth Cave, to Cumberland Falls, there's always a new influence under the next unturned "stone".
Karen began handcrafting jewelry in 2003 as family gifts. It quickly became apparent that her work was something special, and shortly began offering her designs to the general public after receiving some family encouragement. She quickly carved a niche with her unique, interchangeable, stretch-band watch bracelets. They were a "hit" with everyone... Stonehinged was born!
She soon expanded her line to include earrings and necklaces and never looked back. She has been a juried artist in many major art shows and fairs throughout Kentucky as well as around the region.
So how did she come up with the company name "Stonehinged"? It was just the "natural" thing to do!
Karen works out of her home in Georgetown, Kentucky and proudly presents and sells her jewelry designs online at Stonehinged.com.
